Difference Between Biometric Devices and Biometric Scanners

Biometric Devices vs Biometric Scanners

Summary: Difference Between Biometric Devices and Biometric Scanners is that a biometric device authenticates a person’s identity by translating a personal characteristic, such as a fingerprint, into a digital code that is compared with a digital code stored in the computer verifying a physical or behavioral characteristic. While Biometric Scanners are used to scan the biometric information, for example on laptop computers, biometric scanners integrated in laptop computers used to scan the fingerprints to unclock the laptop computer.

Difference Between Biometric Devices and Biometric Scanners

Biometric Devices

A biometric device authenticates a person’s identity by translating a personal characteristic, such as a fingerprint, into a digital code that is compared with a digital code stored in the computer verifying a physical or behavioral characteristic. If the digital code in the computer does not match the personal characteristic code, the computer denies access to the individual.

Biometric devices grant access to programs, computers, or rooms using computer analysis of some biometric identifier. Examples of biometric devices and systems include fingerprint readers, hand geometry systems, face recognition systems, voice verification systems, signature verification systems, iris recognition systems, and retinal scanners. Many grocery stores, retail stores, and gas stations now use biometric payment, where the customer’s fingerprint is read by a fingerprint reader that is linked to a specific payment method such as a checking account or credit card.

Biometric Scanners

Biometric Scanners are used to scan the biometric information, for example on laptop computers, biometric scanners integrated in laptop computers used to scan the fingerprints to unclock the laptop computer. Every Biometric Device does have a biometric scanner to scan the biometric information.
