When you enroll for university, you can opt to be a full-time student or a part-time student. Some courses are offered for full-time study and there might be some that are for part-time study. The Difference between Full time and Part time Student is that a full-time student studies for more credit hours each semester while a part-time student does not take as many credit hours. So, it is obvious that a part-time student will spend less time in class as compared to a full-time student.
Full Time Student:
Full time students are the ones who opt for full time courses and study more credit hours. Normally, the number of credit hours taken by full time students is 12t to 16. This means they are taking a minimum of four classes and spend more time in class as compared to part time students. Since they are studying for more credit hours, the duration of the study is lesser.
The Difference between Full time and Part time Student is that part time students finish their degree in a longer time period as compared to full time students, since they are taking fewer credit hours at a time.
However, full-time students have to pay more tuition fee because they are taking more classes. Most of the times, full time classes are during the morning time. Full time students can finish their degree faster and most scholarships are also awarded only to full time students. There are some schools that will only offer on-campus residence if you are a full-time student.
Part time Student:
The Difference between Full time and Part time Student is that a part time student will spend less time in class. However, this also means that part time students have to study for a longer time. The degree finishes late as compared to full time study because the credit hours are broken down into a longer time frame. Most students go for full time study because part time students are not eligible for many scholarships and they also do not always get residence on campus.
The advantage of part time study is that you have an open schedule, so you can make most of your time. Most part time students also have a job or are focusing on their career alongside their studies. This helps to bring in income. Along with that, they can start their career way before students who wait for their degree to finish to get into the field. With part time study, many students are also able to pay their tuition fee of loans as they are working too.
