Summary: Difference Between CMOS and MOSFET is that RAM chips, flash memory chips, and other types of memory chips use complementary metal-oxide semiconductor technology because it provides high speeds and consumes little power. While MOSFET is a special type of FET (Field-Effect Transistor) which works by changing the width of a channel electronically along which charge carrier’s (electron’s or hole’s) flow.

 

CMOS

Some RAM chips, flash memory chips, and other types of memory chips use complementary metal-oxide semiconductor (CMOS pronounced SEE-moss) technology because it provides high speeds and consumes little power. CMOS technology uses battery power to retain information even when the power to the computer is off. Battery-backed CMOS memory chips, for example, can keep the calendar, date, and time current even when the computer is off. The flash memory chips that store a computer’s startup information often use CMOS technology.

MOSFET

MOSFET Stands for Metal-Oxide Semiconductor Field-Effect Transistor which is pronounced as MAWS-FEHT. MOSFET is a special type of FET (Field-Effect Transistor) which works by changing the width of a channel electronically along which charge carrier’s (electron’s or hole’s) flow. The more wide the channel is the more better result it conducts. The charge carrier’s which may be electron’s or hole’s enter into channel at the source and they exit through the drain. The width of the channel which can be changed electrically is controlled by voltage of electrode known as gate.

MOSFET can function in two different ways. The first one known as Depletion Mode in which there is no voltage on the gate the channel will show it’s maximum conductance. And the other way in which MOSFET can function in is known as Enhancement Mode. In Enhancement mode when there is no voltage enter through the gate, there will be no effect on the whole channel and as a result, the device does not conduct.
